TATA Drives Mobile Web Growth in India with Opera Mini
This partnership enables the mass market customer in India to access Internet in local languages like Hindi.
Opera Software, a company that puts the Web on any device, today announced its initiative with Tata Teleservices Ltd one of India's telecom providers, to provide Opera Mini on its upcoming BREW-enabled handsets. The browser will be made available first on the Huawei C2900i, a mass market BREW-enabled handset.
The Companies claim that this is a milestone achievement for them as it is the first delivery of Opera Mini, a mobile Web browser, on a BREW-enabled handset, and marks Opera's entry into the vibrant Indian market. Accordingly the customers in India shall be empowered to access Internet in local languages like Hindi.
The comapnies state that the Web browser will provide users with access to the full Web, enabling them to surf websites, mobile blogging and social networking. It will also support local language websites such as BBC Hindi, Dainik Bhaskar and others and it will include bookmarks, secure access to e-mail and online banking.
